Shannon Beach Dedication
On Saturday, Sept. 13, the Department of Conservation and Recreation held a special dedication at Sandy Beach, 4 Mystic Valley Pkwy., Winchester, at 10 a.m.
Officials from the DCR, as well as DCR Commissioner Richard K. Sullivan Jr., Sen. Patricia D. Jehlen, D-Somerville, Rep. Paul C. Casey, D-Winchester, Rep. Paul J. Donato, D-Medford, and the family of the late Sen. Charles E. Shannon Jr. were on hand to dedicate the former Sandy Beach site as the Sen. Charles E. Shannon Jr. Memorial Beach.
Shannon died in April 2005 following a bone marrow transplant he received to treat leukemia. He was 61.
Shannon was in his second year of his eighth term as senator of the Second Middlesex District.
